About the mural

The mural design is a free-form abstraction inspired by patterns found in electrical distribution networks, and in a variety of textiles from around the world.

This building houses an electrical sub-station that supplies and distributes power to our area, and is part of a much larger network of energy distribution. The mural imagery serves as a metaphor for the connections found in the electrical grid, and the connections our community has to the world around it.

The name of our city is incorporated into the design; each letter of the word ORANGE is at the center of a large circular motif, and these are visually connected to each other and to a complex network of smaller shapes.

The use of bright colors on a black background connects the mural to textiles from around the globe that use similar color combinations. Extraordinary examples can be found from almost every continent.
